The da Vince Perspective

The Last Supper, as portrayed by Leonardo da Vince, specifically describes the reaction given by each apostle when Jesus states that one of them would betray him. All twelve apostles have different reactions to the news, with various degrees of anger and shock. The painting contains several references to the number three, which represents the Christian belief in the Holy Trinity. The Apostles are seated in groupings of three; there are three windows behind Jesus; and the shape of Jesus’ figure resembles a triangle. There may have been other references that have since been lost as the painting deteriorated. The Last Supper has also been the target of much speculation by writers and historical revisionists alike, usually centered around supposed purported hidden messages or hints found within the painting.

In his analysis, Da Vince invites us to examine the disciples and their position, from the right to the left.

On the head of the table is St. Simon, who represents the sign of Aries, the zodiac sign of fire and action. Simon’s hands indicate the direction to take. Aries astrologically governs the anatomy of the head and Simon’s forehead is well highlighted in the painting. Its readiness is also shown by the creative Aryan[1] hands, to act according to the will and courage of the Aryans.

On the left is St. Jude, representing Taurus. His countenance is angry while listening to Simon as if slowly digesting his impressions. His hands are in the posture of one who receives something, characterizing the possessiveness of Taurus, which is the sign that accumulates. In the human body, Taurus rules the neck and throat, and that of Jude is well highlighted.

St. Matthew comes next, as the representative of Gemini, the Twins, the double sign which governs the interaction with people and ability to gather information. Matthew has the willing hands and face on opposite sides of each other, revealing the Gemini habit of talking and listening at the same time. Matthew was a scribe and the historian of the life of Jesus: he wrote one of four books accepted as genuine by the Catholic Church. Gemini rules the 3rd House of the Zodiac, the House of communication and knowledge.

To the left is St. Philip, representing the sign of Cancer. His hands are towards the chest showing the Cancerian tendency to accommodate, protect and take care of things. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer works with feelings. Philip is angled forward, portrayed as if offering himself to perform some type of task.

At his side is St. James the Lesser, the Leonine, arms open, revealing with sweeping gesture the power to radiate love. Leo governs the heart and the heart chakra. The expansive gesture shows his confident nature and the centering attention.

Behind him, almost hidden, it is St. Thomas, representing Virgo, the famous “seeing is believing” disciple. Thomas does not fail to express the critical and inquisitive side of Virgo: with raised finger he disputes before Christ.

To the left of Jesus, Libra is symbolized by Mary Magdalene, Jesus’ supposed wife. With hands clasped, she weighs and considers all opinions before taking positions. Libra rules the 7th House, which is the sector of marriage and partnerships. There is conjecture that this figure was left as evidence that the Templars supposedly had knowledge about the marriage of Jesus and the destination of his descendants. Others state that this is not Mary Magdalene, but Saint John, the apostle referred to as the one which Jesus loved.

Beside him is Judas Iscariot, Jesus’ bodyguard, representing Scorpio. With one hand he holds a bag of money and with the other hand he knocks on the table in protest. Scorpio rules the 8th House, which deals with goods, death, money, debts and the property ??of others.

Next is Peter, the Fisherman of Souls, representing the joyful Sagittarius. It was he who created the original dogma and church law. Sagittarius rules the 9th House: industry, law, religions and philosophy. His finger points to Jesus as the goal of Sagittarius is spiritual. He also stands between Mary and Judas, bringing clarification and light to the discussion. Sagittarius is the “uplifting” sign of the zodiac.

At his side is St. Andrew, the Capricorn. The most responsible sign of the zodiac, he imposes limits with his restrictive gestures. His thin face and protuberant bones reveal the Capricorn biotype. His hair and beard are white and his face shows the serious relationship that Capricorn obtains with time and wisdom.

Beside St Andrew, we find St. James Major, the Aquarian, who addresses the other apostle with one of his hands on the shoulder of James in a friendly gesture, while the other extends to the yet another. He sees all, encompassing the discipleship led by Jesus. Aquarius rules the 11th House, which encompasses the industry groups, friends, social communications and hope.

Finally, sitting on the left, we have St. Bartholomew, the traveler, representing Pisces. His feet, which are governed by Pisces astrological anatomy, are in focus. He seems absorbed by what happens at the table and, leaning on his hands, makes a devotional statement that reveals the climate of this meeting.

The Lamb of God

The period between 4300 BCE to 2150 BCE was called the “Age of Taurus”, from 2150 BCE to 0 CE was called the “Age of Aries”, and 0 CE to 2150 CE is the “Age of Pisces” and from 2150 will be the famous “Aquarian Age”[1].

In the Bible, with the symbolic episode of the Ten Commandments, when Moses came down with the commandments and saw the people venerating the Golden Calf, he became furious. Moses represents the beginning of new Age of Aries and therefore, in his vision, the “old gods” of the Age of Taurus should have been left behind.

In ancient Greece, gods and monsters and their linking with Taurus were extremely common, including the oxen of Poseidon, the legend of the Minotaur, the archetypical works of Hercules with respect to the capture of the Cretan Bull and the cattle of the monster Geryon. We can also mention the sacred cows in India, and bulls in Egypt and Rome. All of them represented the energies of the age or eon.

The next age is that of Aries, which is represented by the Ram in Greek mythology, especially with the Golden Fleece in the classic story of Jason and the Argonauts. Note the coincidence between the Golden Calf of Moses and the Golden Fleece in these two legends: they both show at the transition between the Ages.

The Loaf of Bread and Fish

The Christ appeared in another period of transition for humanity, delineating the passage from the Age of Aries to the Piscean era. That is why the symbols of Christ would be both at the same time the Fish (the Fisherman of Souls) and the sacrificial Lamb of God. Esoterically, this would be the expression of the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of a cycle of creation or of the manifestation of that wave of consciousness. Since he symbolized the constellation of Aries and the constellation of Pisces, fulfilling the entire 360 degrees of the elliptical, the circle of constellations.

The Christic mission was to bring nurturing for the souls of humanity. Many times in the Biblical texts, the Christ mentions that he is the Bread of Life and he even proves it by performing the miracle of the bread and fish for the multitude waiting for his teachings. The bread itself could be understood as the essence of his ethical instructions. This concept is played out again during the last ceremonial ritual of purification and preparation that he partakes with his disciple before his crucifixion.

In this ceremonial event, Christ washes the feet of his disciples, not only as a gesture of goodwill, but also as a ritualistic purification , preparing his “priests” for the next phase in their mission. It is not surprising that the feet are one of the Piscean symbols.

The Workers in the Vineyard

I will sing for the one I love,
a song about his vineyard:
My loved one had a vineyard,
on a fertile hillside.
~ Isaiah 5

The Vineyard and the wine are constant and powerful symbols that are present in both scriptures of the Old and the New Testament. The “workers in the vineyard” are a recurrent theme first mentioned in Isaiah, then in Matthew 21:33-46 and again in many of the works of the Apostle Paul, especially in:

“As we labor in the vineyard, we must prove our own work“
~Gal. 6:4

As the vineyard functions as a metaphor for the entire Creation, the wine represents the energy of Christ-consciousness and its power to transform and alter realities. Symbolically, it is the energetic Blood that feed, nurtures and incites creatures to evolve and expand the plans of creation.

As matter of record, the ministry of the Christ during Mater Jesus incarnation started with an act of thaumaturgy, or miracle, by transforming the water into wine, recounted in the episode of the Wedding Feast of Cana. Ironically, the Master also closes the period of his ministry during the Last Supper through another thaumaturgical process: the Transubstantiation: transforming wine into his “spiritual” blood.

The wine is also a symbol that represents the Sacred Blood, and it was and is still used in many rituals and celebrations to this day. The Sacrificial Blood is not physical blood that we refer to, not in nature or content; but as the sanctified energy that permeates all living things and levels of consciousness.

The Sacred Elements of the Circle

“Make a circle around a Man or a Woman; design outside of it a square and outside of the square a triangle. Again draw another circle around it and you have the Philosopher stone of the alchemists.”
~Rosarium Philosophorum

Perhaps the circle is the most ancient symbol designed by the human race. It is a simple configuration that resembles some of the shapes and cycles encountered in nature; such as the sun disk, the moon, some of animal forms and even in natural geological structures. It represents, for those who know aspects of the different mystical and esoteric schools of thoughts, the completion and the totality of the original Universe and its fulfillments. All the circular structures express these characteristics and attributes that are pertinent to the absolute ALL, the perfection, the infinite, the unlimited, the extra-temporal un-spatial, the completion and the integral.

The circle also is a symbol of the repetitive cycles of nature: the renewal of energy and elements; birth, growth and death; the process of evolution of consciousness and its consequent expansion through the spiraling point in the center of the circle.

As a geometric matrix form, from this round form many other geometrical patterns can be easily created: the philosopher stone is the synthesis of everything that came into existence and it is a key for the higher knowledge of creation. We can see this pattern through the famous design of Leonardo Da Vince.

The Twelve Chosen Disciples

“The Creation is a mirror where God contemplates eternally his own image”
~ Kabbalah

In Da Vince’s famous painting The Last Supper, one may observe the twelve disciples as the main representative of a celestial order of the twelve signs of the Zodiac. The Twelve Tribes of Israel follow the same basic teaching. In Revelations, the Apostle John speaks of the twelve gates of Heaven, as the gateways to the Temple of the Almighty God.

“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.”
~ Luke 6:12-16

The 72 Apostles, the 72 Directions

“After this the Lord appointed seventy-twoothers and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.”
~ Luke 10:1-4

It should be at note that Christ Jesus had twelve disciples, but he taught and also trained a total of 72 apostles and, even according to the Bible, Christ had sent them many times on different missions. The seventy disciples or seventy-two disciples (known in the Eastern Christian tradition as the seventy apostles) were early followers of Jesus mentioned in the Gospel of Luke 10:1–24. According to Luke, the only Gospel in which they appear, Jesus appointed them and sent them out in pairs on a specific mission which is detailed in the text. There is an undeniable parallel with the angles of the circumference, the twelve signs of the Zodiac, and the 72 apostles to cover the seventy two directions of the circle (5 degrees x 72=360 degrees – a complete circle); with a Christ center as a reference point. In addition, with the same Christ center as a reference point, there are 72 different categories of the angels sent forth by the Divine to assist humanity on its path of self-realization. Each degree corresponds to one day on our regular Gregorian calendar, so each of these angels rules over five days. It is also very curious how the act of choosing 72 apostles also coincides with the intention to re-integrate what was created again within the heart of Creation, or the Creator. When the Tower of Babel fell, it is said that Men stopped understanding each other and divided themselves in 72 different languages and they were dispersed over the surface of the earth in 72 different directions, each watched over by an angel.

Perhaps the intention to bring back the vibrational signature of the 72 broken parts of humanity was part of an effort for the reintegration of the Divinity inside the hearts of men.

It is also the seal keeper of all past life incarnations and karmic lessons. It is believed to coordinate the “grounding cord” for one’s Lightbody that leads to the center of the earth and when functioning properly in coordination with the first chakra (the Muladhara chakra) allows one to be grounded and centered.

The first level of attunement of the Earthstar is done in one of its vortex points called the Incarnational Point. This point located only a few inches below the feet, and is the area responsible for the keeping of practical implementation of the soul’s passage for the current lifetime.

The Attunement will take place on 20 May during the eclipse. You may receive the Attunement at any time on the day of the Attunement, but the best time will be the actual time of total eclipse. In the US, the eclipse starts at 1:56pm PDT/ 4:56pm EDT. It is total at 4:48pm PDT/ 7:48pm EDT. This is the best time to receive the Attunement.

Although part of the teachings of various esoteric traditions, Master Dwjal Khul was the first to reveal publicly to the world, through the works of Alice Bailey, the existence of the transpersonal chakras, namely the location and function of the Soul Star.

The chakras are formed with a mixed of ethereal, astral and mental substances. It is through them that we can connect with the more denser terrestrial energies of the planet and, at the same time, with the more subtle vibrations of the cosmic space. The secondary and tertiary chakras, when appropriately balanced, ignite an alchemical phenomenon known as the Unification of the Chakras. As the Earth Star chakra connects us to Earth with her energy and information, the Soul Star connects us the higher vibrations of the cosmos. It is very important to develop the both the Soul Star and the Earth Star simultaneously.

The Hara Line is the major pipeline, in which energy passes through the central part of the human body, where the primary personal chakra system is located. Located in the central part of the physical body to the navel, the Hara is our true self, the essence of our Divinity. The Hara Line is the conduit that allows the Light energy to pass down to the Soul Star through the Crown, spiraling low straight line down through Hu-Yin point located in the perineum, root or base chakra; the process continues following downward towards the Earth Star, expressing and manifesting the energy of God on Earth through this connection. The transpersonal Chakras join the Soul Star with the Earthstar and Star Core of the Earth.

Just as the Sushumna, or Central Channel, connects the seven primary chakras in the physical body, the Hara Line connects the Transpersonal Chakras to the Sub-personal Chakras through the subtle bodies and connected to the physical body at the Tan Tien. A visualization for this is a three dimensional overlay surrounding the Central Channel.

The Earth Star Chakra is located approximately15 cm below the feet, by which we receive the terrestrial/telluric energy, rising through the chakras of the feet. This chakra is responsible to root the personal and transpersonal parts of one’s soul to the Earth’s molten core of iron through the Earth’s electro-magnetic field. The Earth Star builds the necessary energic bridge which connects the incarnational purpose of a soul with the roots of the planet; essential to anchor a plane of existence. The Earth Star Chakra is also known as the Auric Field Chakra.

All the energy centers that compound the being are the synthesis image of more advanced stages in which life manifested itself. When dislocating thorough the lower planes, there can be an insurgency of forces, or rays, that are transmitted from the monad through the Higher Self and posteriorly, to the physical body, the chakras and the other subtle bodies.

The story of our lives is recorded inside of the matrix of our Earth Star. Following the same path as Kundalini, with birth and childhood being the lower spine and our future at the top, as the energy irradiates to the neck, the Earth Star Chakra becomes responsible for personal development and the paths we take forward in life. Some yoga tantric specialists describe a total of five sub-personal chakras being located below the Muladhara, or Root, Chakra, and the Earth Star Chakra.

These five sub-personal chakras are numbered from the nearest one to the body, a few inches below the feet, to the fifth one, two arms lengths below the feet.

Incarnation Point Chakra (a few inches below the feet) – practical implementation of the soul journey for the current life

Incarnation Chakra (about 40 cm below the feet) – connection to ancestry, tribe, clan

Sub-personal Leadership Chakra (below the feet at an arm’s length) – Anima, in contact with the female archetype

Earth Centering Chakra (below the feet at an arm’s length) – links to the archaic earth energy

Earth Star Chakra (below the feet at two arms’ lengths) – exchange and relationship to the Earth goddess.

The Earth Star Chakra embraces all of our ancestral and racial history, all of our current incarnation’s family mysteries and cycles as well as all generational issues. It is also the record keeper of all past life incarnations and holographic karmic lessons learned. At the end of earthly existence we disconnect from the Earth Star and climb through this tube of Light, passing through all the chakras, when we arrived at Crown and visualize the Light from the Soul Star, the tunnel named by people with close experiences to death. In the process of this ascension, we perceive our whole existence, ordered from the beginning to the end.

This sub-personal chakra makes the true connection between the tridimensional plane of existence of this planet and the holographic grid of previous incarnations. This center differs completely from the Karmic matrix of the four dimensions, because the Earth Star connection is a non-karmic one.

As we all know, the movement from the chakras are rhythmic, constant and harmonious. They circulate the energy through the four bodies in order to promote the perfect integration between our physical body and our Higher Self. When imagining the rotation of the chakras, imagine them rotating in the clockwise movement. Emphasis should be placed on the proper direction because there is that some literature affirms the opposite. When the chakras are perfectly aligned, cleared and strong; one can observe an interesting phenomenon: the root chakra and the crown chakra will undergo a polar inversion, which gives the origin to an opening or a Light gateway to new dimensions of consciousness.

The chakras should be experienced as live consciousnesses. They are not three-dimensional in nature, but they can be perceived tri-dimensionally, as some people have the ability to visualize them with the gift of sight. Normally the chakras are divided in two groups and differ in nature according to their location and they function. They are either “physical”, or personal, chakras, which include the seven most often discussed, or they are transpersonal, or spiritual, chakras which reach the areas beyond the realms of Self.

Among the transpersonal chakras, which are the ones of a more refined spiritual characteristic, we find the ones that are located “below” the self: the sub-personal chakras.

The Earth Star

The Earth Star chakra is the first sub-personal chakra. It is a chakra, believed by some members of New Age and Neo-Pagan, to exist in line with one’s spine, six inches below the feet. Other traditions place the Earth Star chakra as being “two arms lengths” below the feet. Either way, it is located in a fixed position relative to the physical body and not necessarily specifically located beneath the ground.

It is believed that one of the primary functions of the Earth Star is to coordinate the “grounding cord” for one’s Lightbody that leads to the center of the earth; and when functioning properly in coordination with the first, or root, chakra (the Muladhara Chakra) allows one to be grounded and centered in daily living.

What we call Lightbody is the fusion of the four bodies that compound the human body: the etheric, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. Once this fusion is achieved, health, balance, harmony and stability of perfect physical, emotional and mental are finally established.

This same merge represents the unification of the objectives of the Soul and personality, the final identification between the Karma and Dharma when all becomes One. In accordance with the ancient system from Assyria, one would need to activate a fully integrated Lightbody to make the final journey through the enlightened path of the stars. One activated, the Lightbody would enable a soul to be free from all the mutational aspects of duality, igniting what we called the personal Merkabah.

One of the delicate steps of this process is the effective connection with the Lightbody of the planet, through the connection with its heart and the Christic Grid. The prospect to make this connection is only possible to the clearing, activation and integration of one’s energy system with the Earth Star Chakra.

Although our three-dimensional condition of life is linked to seven major chakras, there are actually thousands of chakras inside of our energetic system. Each of them has a valuable function and serves several different purposes.

As a rule of thumb, the chakras are the translators of our preterit memories. They act as inter-dimensional portals that allow us to have access to the necessary energy to live our life experiences in plenitude. They function as organs and through their surfaces they metabolize vital energy coming from our subtle bodies. Inside of each of the chakras, the energy is harmonized and distributed to the rest of the physical body through the various endocrine glands. The free flow of energy through the chakras ensures a smooth flow of vital energy to the rest of our system, providing health and vitality to the physical body.

The chakras are able to alter our moods and behaviors by hormonal influences since they are closely linked to our cellular structure and our endocrine system. The capture of the energies from the chakras is made through the network of fine channels of subtle energy field, called Nadis by the yogis. It forms what we know as the etheric double that gives the entire system the appearance of a colored grid.

According to the yogic teachings, there are 72,000 Nadis, or channels, in the ethereal subtle anatomy of humans. The Nadis are the drivers of the lifeblood of vibrational therapy. Among the 14 major Nadis, three are of fundamental import: Sushumna, Ida and Pingala. All the Nadis are subordinate to the central channel, Sushumna, which runs from the base chakra to the crown chakra. This central channel seems to cut across the spine which circulates the cerebrospinal fluid. In Eastern teaching, the Nadis of the physical body or coarse Nadis are the veins, arteries and nerves.

While we cannot completely assimilate all three dimensional experience in one existence, we go through the process to take upon successive embodiments, transforming the energy constantly through the game of materializing and dematerializing.

Physical life and death differ only in the exterior presentation form of energy. It is said that the spirit leaves the field leaving the body to die, but that is to say, that the energy of matter is transformed into energy of mind again; returning to accomplish the task of raising consciousness after it has assimilated the experience of physical life.

While a soul does not exhaust all the programmed learning system into which it is inserted, it will return again by his own will, or the power of attraction to the physical plane. That is, the spirit –consciousness “substance” becomes dense once again.

The universal energy is densified through the chakras system: when it descends into our physical bodies, using the Nadis as the living energy grid to spread itself broadly, moving through the points referred in acupuncture as the meridians. In this way, all imbalances in the physical body can be somatized and detected through the chakras system before they even begin to exist, or manifest physically, by therapists who work with subtle energy.

Its symbols and the archetypical drama that it precedes, emulates the journey of the Sun through the celestial arch, guiding the light throughout the earth, and ending its journey through the passage into the underworld, and to be again resurrected and victorious in a next cycle.

What we commonly call a Solar Sign is actually the position of the sun in one of the constellations of the sky at the time a person was born. With this record, we can easily determine the category and vibrational quality of the energies present at the birth which would delineate a soul theme to be developed and utilized by the soul in their lifetime. This information, nonetheless, is not complete. Determining and associating the interaction between the Sun and the other planets, the astrological houses, the moon and, sometimes, for a deeper interpretation, the use of the Fixed Stars; are needed for a greater understanding. The basic standard that pins everything together is the Principle of Synchronicity.

If we believe that all the planets and stars are bonded by measurable and perfect orbits, with mathematical precision, and that they belong to and are one of the more refined expressions of the Music of the Spheres, part of an intelligent and conscious orchestration of frequencies; we can determine, by affinity, their influence in areas on the globe in accordance to their position in the heavens.

Accepting that Reincarnation is part of the great Law of Evolution and Balance, we can see this invisible harmonic structure. By affinity, groups of people will be attracted to elaborate together their essences, in accord with these energies. Esoterically, the types of beings that are responsible to engineer these serendipitous events are called Karmic Engineers. Their meticulousness is impeccable, because there is nothing created by the Divine Mind that is out of balance and precision. The way we try to understand the movement and the logic of these great Consciousnesses is through a deeper understanding of logic behind the mechanism of Astrology.

The last meal that Jesus shared with his disciples is described in all four Canonical Gospels, namely in Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26, Luke 22:7-39 and John 13:1-17:26. This meal later became known as The Last Supper. The Gospel of John does not include the episode of the breaking of the bread among the disciples, but tells of Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles, and has a detailed farewell discourse by Jesus, calling the Twelve Apostles who followed his teachings “friends and not servants”, as he prepared them for his departure.

Jesus’ actions in sharing the bread and wine have been linked with Isaiah 53:12, which refers to a blood sacrifice that, as recounted in Exodus 24:8, Moses offered in order to seal a covenant with God. Scholars often interpret the description of Jesus’ action as asking his disciples to consider themselves part of a sacrifice, whereas Jesus is the one due to physically undergo it.

Although the Gospel of John does not include a description of the bread and wine ritual during the Last Supper, most scholars agree that John 6:58-59 (the Bread of Life Discourse) has a Eucharistic nature and resonates with the “words of institution” used in the Synoptic Gospels and the Pauline writings on the Last Supper.

The first records that refer to the existence of horoscopes appeared in the 7th century BCE, when several of the ancient civilizations were candidly devoted to observing the movement of the stars in heaven. These ancient people believed that the stars could influence human life: especially the fate of the newborn. The most common version of the horoscope we know today, however, is a mixture of influences from the ancient astrology of the Babylonians, the Egyptians and the mathematical knowledge of Greek philosophy, and emerged around the 5th century BCE, with the creation of the Zodiac.

In its Greek origin, the word Zodiac means “circle of animals” and indicated the great celestial belt that marked the path of the Sun at that time. Within this trajectory, each constellation symbolized a passing sign. The number of constellations, the figures formed by the connections of the stars, varied in shape and significance in accordance with each civilization, their myths and imagery.

The primary twelve groupings of stars that represent the signs of today were standardized in antiquity, from the influence of images of the mythology of the Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. By setting a fixed reference for observing the stars, the zodiac horoscopes drove the emergence of individual birth chart: an analysis of the sky at birth which supposedly brings revelations about the person and his destiny.

Even in the early Christian era, ancient civilizations defined the profile of each sign, taking into account, for example, the peculiarities of the seasons. Other influences, such as simple observation of the temperament of people born in the same period, also changed the characteristics that each sign has today.

With the change of the solar path over the centuries, the direct correspondence between astrology and astronomy is no longer as accurate as it was in the past. The Sun now passes through constellations that are not part of the zodiac, as well as in periods different from those observed in ancient times. But at least in some respects, the horoscope has adapted to changes over time. “This is the case of some relatively recent innovation in the historical range, as the discovery of the planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, which brought new elements to the astrological sky,” says historian David Pingree of Brown University in the United States.

The Eclectic Mythology

The Sun-Signs nowadays are the result of mixed legends from the Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek and Roman cultures.

ARIES

In Greek mythology, Phrixus, son of King Athamas, would have been murdered by his stepmother when he was rescued by a flying ram with a Golden Fleece, sent by his birth mother. From the Roman tradition, the ram was sacrificed and the fleece was buried in the orchard of Aries, god of war, which gave name to the sign. In Greek tradition, the Golden Fleece was not buried but figured in the legend of Jason and the Argonauts

TAURUS

4000 years ago, Taurus was the first sign of the zodiac. It coincided with the spring and marked the beginning of the year. The image of the bull comes from a Greek myth in which Zeus, the chief of the gods, had taken the form of a bull to kidnap and woo the princess Europa. We see the presence of the symbolic Taurus in the Bull in the Old Testament, which outraged Moses. Also we see the Bull in India as Nandi, the company of Lord Shiva.

GEMINI

The brothers Castor and Pollux, sons of Zeus, fell in love with two girls who were engaged and challenged their rivals. Castor was killed in the ensuing battle, and Pollux, in mourning, asked Zeus to kill him too. In memory of the friendship of the children, Zeus placed the image of twins in the sky, in the constellation of Gemini.

CANCER

In Latin, Cancer means crab, an animal that appears in one of the twelve archetypical Labors of Hercules. Sent forth by Hera, the official wife of Zeus, the crab was killed by the hero, but the courage of the animal earned him an image in the heavens for all eternity.

LEO

The Lion was a symbolical representation of power and royalty in the ancient world. In this sign, we meet again another mythological creature killed by Hercules on his journeys. The hero not only strangled the Nemean Lion with his own hands, he made a cloak of the skin. The conquering of the internal beast of power, or the Ego, is the first task addressed to the demigod Hercules. In honor of the feat, Zeus placed the image of the lion in the night sky.

VIRGO

The Virgin, the purity of Nature’s conceptions, represents the fertility, creativity and the power of creation in itself. For the Romans, the Goddess of Justice represented the constellation Virgo. She was sickened because of the habits of men of war, and was the last to ascend to heaven to reside in the abode of the gods. Minerva, goddess of wisdom, put a picture in the sky in her honor. Another ancient myth talks about the deity Demeter. Though Demeter is often described simply as the goddess of the harvest, she presided also over the sanctity of marriage, the sacred law, and the cycle of life and death. She and her daughter Persephone were the central figures of the Eleusinian mysteries.

LIBRA

The element of measuring of ones actions, thoughts, intentions and accomplishments was a constant concern in ancient times, as noted in societies such as the Egyptians who dedicated their time to program their spiritual development in the afterlife. We see the scale appearing where the Goddess Maat measures the heart of the dead against her feather. Identified by the Romans, Libra symbolizes the scale used by the Virgin to weigh the souls of men to send them to either the underworld or the sky, eternal pleasure or pain.

SCORPIO

This constellation appears in the episode of the death of the giant Orion. In one of the multiple myths, it is said that Apollo, the Greek god, was jealous of the friendship of Orion with his sister Artemis and sent a giant scorpion to bite and kill the giant. Zeus put both the scorpion and Orion in the sky as a reminder of their story.

SAGITTARIUS

In Greek mythology, Chiron was the wisest of the centaurs, a creature half man, and half horse. He was mortally wounded when accidentally struck by an arrow of Hercules, but as a demigod was not able to escape the pain by finding relief in death. He offered himself as a replacement for Prometheus, and it was granted by the powerful god Zeus. Later Zeus honored him with a place in the heavens.

CAPRICORN

In Greek legend, the goat that symbolizes this sign has a fish’s tail. It is a representation of Pan, god of nature who, to escape the Titan Typhon, threw himself into the water. Pan died because, as he turned into fish, half his body was still out of the water. The Goat is also a symbol of Almathea, the foster Mother of Zeus. Amalthea is sometimes represented as the goat that suckled the infant god in a cave in Crete’s Mount Aigaion, “Goat Mountain”. Sometimes she appears in other minor mythologies as a goat-tending nymph.

AQUARIUS

Water is one of the signs of the Babylonians, along with Capricorn and Pisces. In the Middle East, Aquarius would be the corresponding month of the rainy season, which led to the symbol of the sign: a man turning a jar of water. Esoterically, the Aquarius sign represents the waters of the deluge and the mystical transition of Humanity to a new phase in life. In Greece, it is a representation of the young Ganymede. In the best-known myth, Ganymede is abducted by Zeus, in the form of an eagle, to serve as cup-bearer on Olympus. Some interpretations of the myth treat it as an allegory for the human soul aspiring to immortality.

PISCES

In the Greek legend, Aphrodite, goddess of love, and her son Eros turned into fish to escape the Titan Typhon, who could not stand the water. Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom, created the constellation to commemorate the escape. The twin fishes are also a representation of the power of the Goddess Thetis, also a regent of the watery underworld. Thetis is encountered in Greek mythology mostly as a sea nymph or known as the goddess of water. She is one of the fifty Nereids, the daughters of the Ancient One of the Seas with shape-shifting abilities, who survives in the historical vestiges of most later Greek myths as Proteus, whose name suggests the “first”, the “primordial” or the “firstborn”.

When described as a Nereid in classical myths, Thetis was the daughter of Nereus and Doris[1].

The Star of the Birth of Christ

According to Christian tradition, The Star of Bethlehem was the star that guided the Magi to the birthplace of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Matthew mentions that the Magi in the west saw the Star of Bethlehem, but was not clear if it was a planet, a star or other astronomical phenomenon of astrology. According to the writings, the wise men following the star traveled, and it stopped over the place where Jesus was born. Although it is impossible for a star to mark a place as specific as a manger and there have been various suggested explanations for this fact, it is likely that the passage is only a metaphor for the alleged facts. Whatever it was, the Wise Men were associated with King of the Jews. If they were Greek or Roman astrologers, they would have associated the star of Bethlehem with Jupiter, the planet king, and Regulus, the star king. If they came from Babylon, they could have associated the planet Saturn (Kaiwanu). In any case, it could also be the star Sirius, which suggests the “three kings” of the belt of the constellation Orion.

Throughout history, many people have tried to find out about what is the real meaning for star of the Magi: was the star a natural event that really happened, or was it merely an assigned myth of a spiritual nature, or even a real sign of supernatural nature of vital importance to determine the birth of Jesus Christ.

The presence of a star at the birth of Jesus is no doubt a messianic symbol. The Biblical reference is the prophecy of the star of Balaam, which was to be received through line of Jacob. Although the star has often been identified with the King David, even before the birth of Christ, the Jews were still waiting for the Messiah.

“I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near.
A star will come out of Jacob;
A scepter will rise out of Israel.”
~ Numbers 24:17

In the second century, Origen Adamantius and Irenaeus of Lyons recalled this prophecy precisely in relation to the Star of Bethlehem. Irenaeus particularly appealed in his books, to the prophecies to demonstrate the truthfulness of Christianity. The messianic identification is even more clear in the versions of the Bible (the translations normally used by Evangelists), where the “scepter”, which is located in Israel, is translated into Greek as “man”.

As it occurred in the prophecy of Balaam, the theme of “light” appears in many other prophecies throughout the Bible which traditionally are applied to the Messiah.

“Arise; shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the LORD rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
~ Isaiah 60:1

The “nationalism” that pervades the prophecy of Balaam may be the reason why the Star does not appear in the Gospel of Luke, directed to “gentle” Hellenized Jews.

Through the ages, astronomers have tracked the scriptural references to try to find a rational explanation for these episodes of the New Testament, trying to find our clues for the exact date of birth of Jesus Christ; and to determine if it was really possible to track what could have been an astronomical phenomena that may have coincided in time with the scriptures.

The monk Dionysius Exiguus[1], an astronomer and abbot of a Roman Scythian monastery responsible for establishing the birth of Jesus, made ??two significant errors in calculating the calendar in the sixth century Christian. To determine the year of the birth of Christ took into account the reigns of Roman emperors, but forgot that Caesar Augustus had ordered four years under the name of Octavio and the year zero omitted.

That margin of error places the birth of Jesus five years earlier than generally assumed. Besides these facts, there are two other references furnished by the Gospels which are useful to find the approximate date of the event revered by Christians.

The census that forced Joseph and Mary to request lodging in Bethlehem could be what Caesar Augustus ordered between 8 and 6 BC. Additionally, according to scripture, King Herod, who ordered the death of male children hoping to eliminate the “King of the Jews” died in 4 BC.

The Nativity probably did not happen in December. Luke the Evangelist says that the shepherds watched their flocks in the mountains, but in Bethlehem, in December, it was the time during which sheep would have been driven to town and during which, the sheep would have been grazing indoors and out. This data suggests that the birth of Jesus took place between March and April of year 6. BC.

In the Gospel of Luke, it says that the angel Gabriel appears to Zechariah, father of John the Baptist, when he ministered in the temple. Given this, we obtain the data, as was the order of Abijah, ministering the incense the penultimate week of May and John was born before Jesus, at least six months ahead. So, according to this, Jesus must have been born for the Feast of Tabernacles, in the month of September.

On the other hand, if we take into account that in the Gospel of Luke and that the sixth month of the Jewish calendar for the month of Etul, ‘August- September’ to the Gregorian calendar, we can locate the moment of conception of Mary, hence the birth of Jesus nine months after “June” in the Gregorian calendar, also coincides with the summer solstice for the northern hemisphere, 21 June being the longest day of the year. This foundation is totally believable as based on a biblical and astronomical perspective.

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David.
~ Luke 1, 26-27

The Gospel of Luke mentions that the announcement was the sixth month of the Jewish calendar, ie in September, which is governed under the sign of Virgo (the Virgin) and a nine-month gestation would result in the virgin shine under the sign of Gemini, in June. Because of the above, one can conclude that Jesus was born in June, probably on the 17th (numerological 8 as the day of his resurrection and symbol of baptism) and analog in terms of interpretation allow us to affirm the dual nature of Christ, God and human, as Castor and Pollux in the constellation Gemini, in terms of Greek mythology.

[1] Dionysius Exiguus (Dennis the Small, Dennis the Little or Dennis the Short, meaning humble) (c.?470 – c.?544) was a 6th-century monk born in Scythia Minor, modern Dobruja shared by Romania and Bulgaria. He was a member of the Scythian monks community concentrated in Tomis, the major city of Scythia Minor. Dionysius is best known as the inventor of the Anno Domini (AD) era, which is used to number the years of both the Gregorian calendar and the (Christianized) Julian calendar.
