The Evolution of Christ Consciousness 1
The Christ for the Early Christians
"I am the way and the truth and the life.”
~John 14:6
Who is the Christ and what is Christ Consciousness?
These two questions wander in the mind of many of those who are entering the realm of the spiritual path, especially because the historical figure of Christ Jesus tends to be identified only with the religious aspects of Christianity. In truth, Christ or Christ Consciousness does not belong to any specific sect or religious orientation. Christ Consciousness can be defined as a state of consciousness in which a universal awareness is transformed into a higher consciousness. Christ is a universal manifestation of the love of God, the ultimate expression of the Logos.
The word Christ is the English term for the Greek Khristós, meaning "the anointed one"(transcribed into Latin as Christus). It is a translation of the Hebrew (M?šîa?), usually transliterated into English as Messiah. In the popular modern convention, even within secular circles, the term usually refers explicitly to the Master Teacher Jesus of Nazareth. It is the externalization of a royal title, which denotes not only a divine spiritual lineage but also to represent a bloodline of royalty. It is no wonder that the Apostle Matthew spent so much time on the opening statements of his Gospel attending to every single detail of Christ Jesus bloodlines, through the table of descent of Jesus Christ, son of David and son of Abraham.
The Christ Energy was well known through ancient times.
The Christic energy represents a divine cosmic “drama” and can be told and retold in many ways through different myths throughout history, and it was taught inside of many temples of ancient tradition, including Egypt, Greece, and India; as well as in many worlds of the infinite space of manifestation. The sacrifice of the Divine Word, the Verb, as a celestial being that comes to the world to bring forgiveness and abundance into the lives of people but ends up being sacrificed on the cross of duality. The quintessence of this high and Divine Being is very difficult to express in common words. He is a Being who already existed long before the Earth was created and who has been part of the Highest Divine Cosmic Energy from the very beginning. He is the expression of the primo mobile, the first movement that came from the heart of the one true source of All That Is.
“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
The same was at the beginning with God.
All things came into being through him and without him, not one thing came into being. (…)
And the Word became flesh
And lived among us (…)”
~John Chapter 1
In ancient civilizations, long before the birth of Christ Jesus in the Holy Land, the Christ Consciousness was known under different names. In the old Persia, Zarathustra or Zoroaster, a great initiate who lived approximately 5000 years before Christ Jesus, and spoke about the great Sun-Being of Ahura Mazdah. Not only in ancient Persia was the high Sun-Being was worshiped, but also in other high-minded cultures. The Egyptians, for instance, knew the Sun God Ra. This God was often referred to as Horus. Horus is the Son of the great Sun god Osiris and his wife, Isis.
The Gnostics usually thought that Christ was a more purified manifestation of the Divine Spark and that they should be preoccupied with finding it inside of themselves. They believed that there was an intimate Christ that should be activated inside of the human hearts.
In several of the Apocrypha texts, including the Gospel of the Apostle Thomas and the text reputed to be from Peter, from the Nag Hammadi compilations, we can perceive a very distinctive difference between the Living Christ and the Dead Christ; clearly showing the difference between those that were worshiping a man, a regular human being, and of those that understood the depth of his teachings. We can now perceive clearly that the actual history lived by the Master Jesus, which is told through the regular gospels of his disciples, is, in fact, a representation of a Cosmic Myth, which introduces us into the mysteries of the Cosmic Christ.
It is common to see people misunderstanding the message and mistaking the ever-existing Christ Consciousness with the historic Master of two thousand years ago. The Christ is an extemporal Being, that renews and develops itself from instant to instant; he is the representation of the Sacred Fire, The Cosmic Universal Fire, which is the spark of life and consciousness in every living being, from all the kingdoms, in every manifestation, and in every cell and atom.
To advance spiritually, the early Christians believed that that was necessary to incarnate the qualities of the Cosmic Christ. To incarnate is to “take upon our flesh”, to receive and partake of this ever-present spark. In this ritual resides the mysteries of the last supper, where through the celebration of bread and wine, the Master emulates the transubstantiation of his body and blood, the “body of Christ” to deliberately enable his Disciples and Apostles to receive in themselves the Eternal Spark and to continue the journey of transcendence. The second coming will be from inside of each one’s heart, states the Apocrypha.
To get to know the Cosmic Christ is to practice self-realization, self-awareness, and mindful living. Only through the path of self-evaluation and control, can one successfully awaken one’s own universal consciousness and cosmic understanding.
“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.”
