Healing Burma: Getting Relief to Myanmar

Cyclone Nargis has taken an estimated 100,000 lives in Myanmar. Nearly 1,000,000 are homeless, hungry, and without clean drinking water. Disease is now starting to claim lives. Lingering bodies of the dead victims and livestock in the waters are contaminating the surrounding environment. Food is scarce, and the little food that is left is being price gouged where people can't afford it.

Humanity Healing is working to support the International Burmese Monks Organization for Humanitarian Relief. The International Burmese Monks Organization, including many leaders of the democracy protests last fall, launched a new effort to provide relief through Burma's powerful grass roots network of monasteries' the most trusted institutions in the country and currently the only source of housing and support in many devastated communities. The International Burmese Monks Organization will send money directly to each monastery through their own networks, bypassing regime controls.
